Kings College London is taking applications for the Africa International PGR Scholarships for African Scholars for the 2021/22 school session.

For this scholarship award, cross-disciplinary projects are particularly encouraged, and all projects are required to fall at the crossroads of two or more of the following subject matter or fields:

  1. Conflict, Peace and Security: King’s is world-famous for the study of violent conflict, peace, and security. The School of Security Studies and the School of Global Affairs offer a variety of programs of significance to Africa, with the African Leadership Centre providing a specific focus on leadership studies at the security-development interconnection.
  2. Global Health: Scholars in this field are exposed to a distinctive global and cross-disciplinary context covering wide areas like healthcare collaborations, global surgery, maternal health, palliative care, international health governance and policy, mental health, cancer, ageing, oral health and mucosal biology, diabetes and other conditions, migration and health, conflict and health, environment and health.
  3. Development: The study of development at King’s covers a range of fields with particular focus in the School of Global Affairs comprising, development studies with reference to developing economies in the Department of International Development; environment and growth with a prospect to examine disasters and acclimatization in the Department of Geography; leadership and growth at the African Leadership Centre.
  4. Digital Technology: Scholars in this field undertake research into new and developing internet technologies in the Faculty of Natural and Mathematical Sciences; and the various ways in which digital technologies and techniques are changing society in King’s pioneering Department of Digital Humanities.

Worth of Africa International PGR Scholarships at KCL

The Africa International PGR Scholarships cover:

  • A yearly allowance (living stipend): at the UKRI rate (for the session 2021/22, this is set at £17,609)
  • Full international tuition fees
  • Research Support Grant: up to £5000 per year, based on the research project

Eligibility for Africa International PGR Scholarships at KCL

Applicants of the Africa International PGR Scholarships have to

  • Be African citizens and permanently resident in the relevant nation;
  • Be liable for tuition fees at the higher foreign/abroad rate;
  • Plan to start a full-time MPhil/PhD program at King’s College London in the 2021-22 school session (from October 2021 and by no later than June 2022);
  • Plan to carry out research that is significant to Africa, at the intersection of two or more of the given subject matter or fields, as explained in the ‘Award Details’ section;
  • Have submitted application to King’s College London for the scholarship award (as instructed in the ‘How to Apply’ section below) by the given closing dates;
  • Secure an offer of admission for an MPhil/PhD program at King’s by June 30, 2021

Please note

  • Present doctoral degree candidates are not qualified to apply;
  • The scholarship award cannot be held on a part-time basis;
  • Professional doctorate degree programs are not qualified;
  • Distance learning programs are not qualified;
  • The scholarship award cannot start before October 2021.
